Physiology

• Pulmonary hypertension due to ingestion of rapeseed oil contaminated by aniline/acetanilide dyes

Diagnosis

• Open Lung Biopsy: medial hypertrophy, intimal proliferation of small pulmonary arteries: early signs of plexogenic arteriopathy
• Resembles pulmonary veno-occlusive disease (except involves arteries + veins)

Clinical

• Scleroderma-Like Syndrome (see Scleroderma)
• Pulmonary Hypertension (see Pulmonary Hypertension)
• Acute Lung Injury (see Acute Lung Injury-ARDS): most patients died of increased permeability pulmonary edema soon after ingestion
