Physiology

  • Benign lung neoplasm

Pathology

  • Histologically considered to be chondromatous hamartomas
  • One case has shown metastases from leiomyosarcoma present with chondromas

Clinical Presentations

  • Carney’s Triad: gastric epithelioid leiomyosarcoma + pulmonary chondromas + extra-adrenal paraganglionomas
    • Some cases have only 2 out of 3 features
    • Occurs mainly in females <30 y/o (<10% of cases are males)
  • Lung Nodule (see Lung Nodule or Mass, [[Lung Nodule or Mass]])
    • Diagnosis
      • CXR/Chest CT
        • Sharply circumscribed, single or multiple nodules
        • May be calcified or ossified
        • May exhibit slow growth
      • FNA: may be diagnostic
  • Endobronchial Obstruction (see Obstructive Lung Disease, [[Obstructive Lung Disease]])
