Streptococcus Agalactiae (Group B Strep)
Microbiology
- Member of Streptococcus Genus (see Streptococcus, [[Streptococcus]])
- Streptococcus Agalactiae is part of the normal intestinal flora
- Streptococcus Agalactiae is part of the normal vaginal flora in 10-20% of women
- Trans-vaginal transmission may infect the neonate
Clinical Manifestations
- Bacterial Sepsis of the Newborn
- Early-onset bacterial sepsis of the newborn is more more commonly associated with neonatal pneumonia (see Pneumonia, [[Pneumonia]])
- Late-onset bacterial sepsis of the newborn is more commonly associated with neonatal meningitis (see Meningitis, [[Meningitis]])
- Necrotizing Fasciitis (see Necrotizing Fasciitis, [[Necrotizing Fasciitis]])
Treatment
Acute Skin/Skin Structure Infection
