Etiology

• Cellulitis/Erysipelas (see Cellulitis, [[Cellulitis]] and Erysipelas, [[Erysipelas]]): petechiae may occur in some cases as associated findings
• Thrombocytopenia (see Thrombocytopenia, [[Thrombocytopenia]])

Clinical Manifestations

• Example: petechiae on the lower extremities of a 67 y/o F with acute immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) and platelet count of 1k (see Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura, [[Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura]])
